What were the quakers
A religious group that emerged after 1650 when their founder George Fox had a revolution that god could be found inside everyday so to do harm to a person was to harm god
London meeting
1793 presented a petition against the slave trade that was signed by 273 people and they then set up a committee to actively campaign for abolition
Pamphlet
In 1784 100000 copies were sold and distributed among MPs, royal family and the general pubic
What were they credited with
Spearheading a moral crusade against slavery since over 10000 african were in London as slaves and their campaigns increasingly challenged by the Quaker’s humanitarian campaign
Anthony Benezet
Published a number of anti slavery pamphlets e.g some historical account of guinea and set up an evening school for poor black children
Communication
Persecuted religion so they had set up nationwide communication links which enabled them to spread the campaign to places influenced by politics
