Skull Flashcards
Bones of the head
Frontal(1), parietal(2), occipital(1), temporal(2), sphenoid(1))
Sutures of the skull
1. Coronal suture Bergman is the point between these two 2. Saggital suture Lambda is the point between these two 3. Lamboidal suture
What is the pterion and what is its clinical relavence
The junction of the temporal, sphenoid, parietal, and frontal bones
Skull fractures int his region cn cause an epidural hematoma
What is the clinical correlation of the anterior fontanelle
The anterior fontantelle can be used to access the superior Sagittarius venous sinus in neonates
What is the difference between emissary veins and bridging veins
Clinical correlate
Emissary veins come from the outside(scalp) to the sinus and bridging veins go from the brain to the venous sinus
Can transmit infection from the scalp to the brain
What is the blood supply to the inner surface of the calvarium
Meningeal arteries
Layers of the scalp
Skin Connective tissue Epicranial Aponeurosis Loose areolar tissue Periosteum
In order to scalp someone you remove the scalp between the 3 and 4 layers
What are the nerves tot eh scalp
V1=supraorbital/trochlear
V2=zygomaticotemporal
V3=ariculotemporal
Lesser occipital ventral and dorsal ramus
What is the blood supply of the scalp and the venous drainage
The ophthalmic arteries branches=supraorbital/trochlear and the branches of the external carotid= superficial temporal, posterior auricular and the occipital artery
Vein supply has the same name of the arteries
What are the bones of the face
Frontal bone, nasal bones(2), zygomatic bone(2), maxillary bone-alveolar process for upper teeth(2), mandible bone-alveolar processes fro the lower teeth
What are the names of the branches of the trigeminal nerve
V1=ophthalmic division
V2=maxillary division
V3=mandibular division
What is the foramen directly below the orbit and what bone is it in
The infraaorbital foramen in the maxillary bone
What is the foramen in the chin and what bone is that
The mental foramen in the mandible below the second premolars tooth
