SKULL Flashcards
The 3 Layers of the Cerebral Cranium
OUTER TABLE/ OUTER COMPACT LAYER
INNER COMPACT LAYER
DIPLOE
It is the outer covering of the brain.
OUTER TABLE/OUTER COMPACT LAYER
Layer of the Cerebral Cranium that is spongy and is most bloody
DIPLOE
The inner layer covering the brain
INNER COMPACT LAYER
It is the point where the sagittal suture meets the lambdoidal suture and becomes filled in with bone at about 6 months and is called “Lambda”.
Posterior/Occipital Fontanel
Is the small gap on the posterior surface of the skull at the junction of the two parietal bones with the occipital bone.
POSTERIOR/OCCIPITAL FONTANEL
This is the junction of the coronal and sagittal suture called “Bregma”.
ANTERIOR/FRONTAL FONTANEL
Lies at the junction of the two parietal bones with the frontal bone at the midline of the vertex.
ANTERIOR/FRONTAL FONTANEL
are gaps in the skull of infants between the angles formed at the junctions of the parietal, frontal and occipital bones.
FONTANEL/FONTANELLE
forms the joint between the lateral borders of the parietal bone and the upper border of the temporal bone on each side.
SQUAMOUSAL SUTURE
This lies on the lateral wall of the skull above and behind the ear
SQUAMOUSAL SUTURE
is the joint between the posterior borders of the two parietal bones and upper border of the occipital bone.
LAMBDOIDAL SUTURE
This form a curved line on the posterior surface of the skull and meets the posterior end of the sagittal suture in the midline.
LAMBDOIDAL SUTURE
is the joint between the posterior border of the frontal bone and the anterior borders of the parietal bones.
CORONAL SUTURE
They crosses the roof/vertex of the skull transversely and meet the sagittal suture at right angle.
CORONAL SUTURE
