Skinfold Measures Flashcards
Tricep
Chromial landmark (edge of shoulder)
Radialan mark (tip of condial top of radius bone)
Segmometer to find midpoint
Wrap tape measure around arm
Mark under tape measure at back of arm
Make a vertical line along the horizontal in the centre of the arm
Vertical skinfold
Bicep
Chromial landmark (edge of shoulder)
Radialan mark (tip of condial top of radius bone)
Segmometer to find midpoint
Wrap tape measure around arm
Make a horizontal line above the tape measure and a vertical line through the middle of the arm
Vertical skinfold
Subscapular
Locate the bottom of scapular bone If hard to find fold arm behind back Make a dot at bottom of bone Draw a horizontal and vertical line from the dot Dissect it with a 45 degree line 2cm down that line (measure it) make a mark Take the skinfold measure from there 45 degree skinfold
Supraspinale
Ask client to put their arm across their chest
Locate illiac crest landmark (make a horizontal mark)
Anterior super illiac spine (little notch) (if hard to find ask client to wiggle their leg) make a dot
Relax their arm
Get pp to hold tape measure with their left hand in the armpit and put it in line with the little dot
Make a mark at same level with illiac crest
Then come across horizontally from the illiac crest mark
Take a pinch at a 45 degree angle
Turn into more of an asterix
45 degree angle
Abdominal
5cm to left hand side from centre of the belly button (pp right hand side)
Small vertical and horizontal mark, then extend it into a cross
Vertical skinfold
Illiac crest
Ask pp to put their right arm across their chest
Locate top of illiac crest bone and make a horizontal mark
Make a pinch above this (thumb on mark)
In middle of pinch make another horizontal mark
Directly below the armpit make a vertical mark
Horizontal skinfold
Thigh
Pp has knee straight and is sat down
Find paleter (top of the knee cap)
Stretch the skin to top of the knee cap
Ask pp to bring leg to a bent position
Make a small mark at top of knee cap
Make a small notch at midpoint of the thigh
Using segmometer, ask pp to put one end in inguinal fold (where torso meets the leg)
Find midpoint between two, make a horizontal mark
Make a small vertical mark at midpoint of the thigh
Get pp to keep leg straight/relaxed and take a vertical skinfold
Calf (gastrocnemius)
Ask pp to stand on a stall/box with feet shoulder width apart
Find thickest point of the calf
Make a horizontal mark on the inside of the calf
Ask pp to step off box but keep leg with the mark on the box
Make a vertical line in the middle of the area
Vertical skinfold
