Practical 3 - Assessing Cardio-Respiratory Fitness Flashcards
How does the Chester step test assess CRF?
By determining their rate of recovery
What sort of intensity is the Chester step test?
Sub maximal intensity
What is the procedure for the Chester step test?
Strap HR monitor onto clients chest and you hold watch
Calculate 80% max HR
Required to step on and off a 30cm high box for 5 stages where in the intensity increases
Record HR and RPE at end of each stage
The Chester step test finishes when either…
HR of 80% is achieved (however if they feel okay to continue allow the to do so)
Score of 14 on RPE is reached
All 5 stages have been completed
What is the aim of the Cooper 12 minute run test?
To complete as many laps as possible in 12 minutes
What intensity is the cooper 12 minute run test?
Maximal test (value is used to estimate VO2 max)
What is the procedure for the Cooper 12 minute run test
Set out some cones to show an area you would like the client to run around, measure the distance around that circuit
Tell the client the purpose is to cover as much distance as possible in 12 minutes
Record the number of laps the client performs
What must the client know during the Cooper 12 minute run test?
That it is a maximal test and so they should run so that at the end they could not run anymore
What is the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test better for?
Team sports
What intensity is the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test?
Maximal test (value is used to estimate VO2 max)
What is the procedure for the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test
Place a set of cones 20m apart
Place another set of cones 5m back from either end
Start at cone 2 and run to cone 1 then back to cone 2
Then at cone two there is a rest period dictated by the beeps on a CD
This is repeated until you retire or fail to make the beeps 2 consecutive times
Are you allowed to give encouragement during the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test?
Yes
