What are essential oils?
They are highly concentrated, highly volatile and are extracted from certain plants.
How do they keep the essence of the plant from whic they are extracted?
The armoma molecules are insoluable in water (oils) and therefore can retain the smell of the plant.
What are essential oils made from?
Terpenes.
What must each terpene contain?
What is the formula for a simple terpene?
At least one isoprene unit.

How can you indentify an isoprene?
By dividing the number of carbons by 5, that tells you how many isoprene units.
What is the systematic name for the isoprene unit for terpenes.
2 - methylbuta - 1, 3 - diene. (C5H8)
What are the types of radiation and what do they do?
UVA (aging)
UVB (burning)
UVC (lost in atmosphere)
What does sunblock do?
Sunblock prevents harmful UV rays from being absorbed into the skin and breaking the bonds, which prevents the formation of free radicals.
