Q

what is squamous cell carcinoma?

A

2nd most common skin cancer
arises from squamous cells/keratinocytes in epidermis
less than 5% metastasise to regional nodes, rarely metastasis beyond nodes

16
Q

what is this?

17
Q

what is biopsy findings in BCC?

A

nests of basaxoid dark cells in dermis
palisading nucleus - cells at peripheral of nests lined up in parallel

18
Q

what is superficial BCC?
presentation?

19
Q

how do you treat SCC and BCC?

20
Q

what is melanoma?
how do you assess it?

21
Q

what are the types of melanoma?

A

superficial spreading
nodular
lentigo maligna
acral lentiginous

22
Q

what is superficial spreading melanoma?

A

most common subtype
grows horizontally

23
Q

what is nodular melanoma?

A

aggressive subtype
grows vertically
50% melanoma deaths

24
Q

what is lentigo maligna?
presentation?

25
what is acral lentiginous?
least common subtype of melanoma affects palms, feet sole + under nails most common in dark-skinned patients eg asians, African-americans
26
what are risk factors for melanoma?
27
how do you diagnose melanoma? tumour marker?
28
how do you treat melanoma? how do you grade prognosis?
excision with wide margins can metastasise via blood or lymph. most commonly to lungs, liver + brain
29
what are the gene mutations assoc with melanoma?
