Melanoma, Basal Cell, and Squamous Cell
What is the difference between UVA and UVB radiation?
UVA - Penetrates deeply, but doesn’t burn.
UVB - Causes sunburns.
Name and describe the ABCDEFG properties.
A - Asymmetry (Not symmetrical)
B - Border (Uneven borders)
C - Color (Abnormal color change)
D - Diameter (Bigger than that of an eraser)
E - Elevated
F - Firm
G - Growing
What reasons would make you visit the doctor immediately?
- Any of the ABCDEFG properties
- Changes of texture
How can sunburns under the age of 20 affect your health as an adult?
1 sunburn - Doubles your risk of Melanoma
3 or more - Multiplies your risk by 5
What can you do to help prevent sunburns?
Protective sunblock, sun block (spf 45), avoid sun from 10am - 2pm
What are some high risk factors of Melanoma?
Tanning beds, 50+ moles, atypical moles, sunburns before age of 20, light skin/eyes, family history.
What is it when cancer spreads to distant parts of the body?
Metastasis
What is the ONLY way to safely tan?
Sunless bronzers or spray tan
Where is the most common areas for caucasian males and females to get Melanoma?
Men = Trunk (back)
Females = Back of lower legs
Where is the most common areas for Asian, Hispanic, and African American males and females to get Melanoma?
Both genders = Hands and feet
