Skin Cancer Flashcards
What is Gorlin Syndrom?
Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome. Autosomal dominant mutation in PTCH1 tumor suppressor. BCCs at early age and MSK defects. High risk of neoplasms
What is the most common mutation in BCC?
PTCH1 in 30% of cases
What is MOA of vismodegib?
competitive antagonist of SMO
What epidermal layer is squamous cell carnicoma usually start in?
Spinous layer
What is actinic keratosis?
minimal atypia SCC. least severe.
What is SCC in situ?
a full thickness epidermal atypia SCC. Confined ABOVE the basement membrane
What is Invasive SCC?
extends beyond Basement membrane
Which skin cancer presents with keratin pearls?
SCC
WHat are risk factors for devleopment of SCC?
p53 mutations, UV, HPV, and immunosuppression
What is a keratoacanthoma?
Related to SCC. Keratinocyte neoplasm that is painful but often spontaneously involutes
What is a marjolin’s ulcer?
Ulcerated invasive SCC arising on a background of chornic inflam, scarring, radiation, trauma.
What is most common type of cancer in 25-29yo?
melanoma
If melanocytes ‘mature’ with descent into dermis: melanoma or nevi?
benign nevi. Non-maturing melanocytes are sign of melanoma
If melanocytes are located above the basal layer: melanoma or nevi?
melanoma. Normally melanocytes should never go above the basal layer.
How do you screen for melanoma?
ABCD
asymmetry, borders, color, diameter, elevation, changing, ugly duckling sign.
