Skin and Body Membranes Flashcards
Body Membrane is composed of Tissue type
Epithelial membranes: cutaneous, mucous and serous membranes
Membrnes that are composed of only connective tissue
synovial membrane
Cutaneous Membrane
Skin
its dry, outermost protective boundry
structure: Keratinized straified squamous epithelium,
Underlying dermis is mostly dense conenctive tissue.
Mucas Membrane
Type depends on locations:
Stratifiedd squamous epithelium
simple columnar epithelium
Under the membranes is loose connective tissue.
Serous Membrane
Surface layer - simple squamous epithelium
Underlying layer - Areolar connective tissue
Line body cavities that are closed to the exsterior.
Occur in pairs.
Visceral layer covers the outside of he organ
The parietal layer lines a portions of the wall of central body cavity
serious fluid inbetween the 2 membranes.
Specific Serous Membranes
Peritoneum - Abdominal Cavity
Pleura Lungs
Pericardium - Around the Heart
Skin - Functions
Body Temp, Water Balance, Excretes small amounts of waste, barrier to organism.
Identify the tissues where you would find chondrocytes.
Elastic cartilage and hyaline cartilage
Identify the tissues where you would find abundant elastic fibers.
Elastic cartilage and elastic connective tissue
Identify the tissues where you would find osteocytes?
Spongy bone and compact bone
