Advises NHS on specially formulated items for medical conditions
What do you give for acne that has proven resistant to all common methods including creams, gels, ointments and abx
Isotretinoin
What are bath emollients and shower preps?
Added to bath water
Soak in 10-20 mins
Avoid soap in dry conditions
What is a the warning for paraffin?
Risk of fire due to build up of residue on clothing and bedding
Nappy rash treatment
1st line - change nappy frequently
Hydrocortisone for inflammation (mild 0.5 or 1%) and stop using when inflammation finishes
Can use zinc oxide cream/ointment
For infection - clotrimazole
What does cellulitis require?
Abx
What is the treatment of impetigo?
Localised non bullous - hydrogen peroxide 1% cream
Widespread non bullous - topical or oral antibiotic (fusidic acid, mupirocin, flucoxicillin or erythro/clari if flucox is unsuitable
Bullous - antibacterial oral or local if localised
Treatment for infected burns
Silver sulfadiazine
Treatment for staph infections, impetigo, angular chelitis?
Fusidic acid
Flucoxacillin
Treatment for rosacea
Metronidazole
How are antifungals applied to the skin?
Topically
Systemically if it doesn’t get better
Ringworm name - scalp
Tinea capitis
Ringworm name - body
Tinea corporis
Ringworm name - groin
Tinea Cruris
