Wormian
A small bone positioned within a suture of certain cranial bones
Sesamoid
Membranous bone formed in a tendon in response to joint stress
Epiphyses
The enlarged ends on long bones
Cartilage
A spongey tissue; acts as a buffer between bones like a shock absorber
Periosteum
Tough membrane that adheres tightly to outer surface of the bone
Medullary canal
A narrow space which is linked to the end of the shaft
Joint
The point where two bones meet
Ligament
Strong bands or cords that join bones together or keep organisms in place
