How many bones do you have?

How many bones in a fetus
275
Functions of skeletal
Support, protection, movement, mineral storage, blood cell production, storage of energy
Axial skeleton
Skull
Spinal column
Sternum
Rib
Appendicular skeleton
Hips
Shoulders
Limbs
Clavicle
Long bones vs Short bones
Longer than it is short- long (phalanges)
As long as they r wide- short (cranium)
Flat Bones vs irregular bones vs sesamoid
Thin and curved to protect internal organs- flat (scapula, cranium, pelvis)
Vary in shapes and protect organs-irregular (vertebrae, facial bones)
Formed in embedded within a muscle/tendon near a joint-sesamoid (patella)
Bone structure
Compact bone - outer structure (solid bone that doesn’t bend easily)
Spongy bone - inner structure (covers the space where the bone marrow is stored)
Structures of the long bone
Epiphyseal plate: cartilage - GROWTH PLATE
Articular cartilage- covers epiphysis and facilitates joint movement
Medillary cavity- inner hollow cavity along diaphysis containing bone marrow
All the rib types and number of ribs
True rib- joined to spinal column and sternum (7)
False rib- attached to spinal column and 7 rib (3)
Floating ribs- do not attach to sternum or other ribs (2)
Vertebral Column sets
Cervical (neck)-7
Thoracic (Midback)-12
lumbar (lower back)-5
sacral (5 fused vertebrae)
coccyx (tailbone)- 4 fused vertebrae
SEPARATED BY THICK DESKS THAT CUSHION THE VERTEBRAE FOR MOVEMENT AND FLEXIBILITY
Bones in the skull
1) frontal bone (forehead)
2) mandible (jaw)
3) occipital (very base of your skull)
4) temporal (temples)
5) parietal (main top surface of the skull)
