Skeletal + Muscular System Flashcards
What is an Isometric contraction?
A muscular contraction in which the
length of the muscle does not change.
What is an Isotonic contraction?
A muscular contraction in which the length of the muscle changes.
What is an Eccentric contraction?
An isotonic contraction where the muscle lengthens.
What is an example of an eccentric contraction?
the lowering phase of a biceps curl
What is a Concentric contraction?
An isotonic contraction where the muscle shortens.
What is an example of a concentric contraction?
the upward phase of a bicep curl
What are the types of twitch fibres?
Fast Twitch and Slow Twitch
Fast Twitch Fibers
these are built for short, powerful bursts of energy.
Slow Twitch Fibers
aka red fibers as they contain more blood-carrying myoglobin, which creates a darker appearance.
can sustain force for an extended period of time but are not able to generate a significant amount of force.
What exercises use fast twitch fibers?
sprinting
jumping
powerlifting
agility training
What exercises use slow twitch fibers?
marathons
distance running
cycling
walking
What are the major bones of the skull?
Mandible
Cranium
What are the major bones of the spine?

Coccyx
Cervical, Thoracic + Lumbar (Vertebrae)
What are the major bones of the chest?
Sternum
Ribs
What are the major bones of the arms?
Clavicle
Scapula
Ulna
Radius
