Plantar
the sole side of the foot

Deep
a body part that is internal or further from the surface of the body than another
Example of Deep
hypothermia leads to vasoconstriction and the veins become more deeply positioned
Superficial
a body part closer to the surface than another (opposite to deep)
Example of Superficial
sweating leads to vasodilation and the veins become more superficial
Distal
a body part further away from the point of attachment than another
Example of Distal
The wrist is distal to the forearm flexors
Proximal
a body part closer to its attachment point than another
Example of Proximal
the elbow is proximal to the wrist because it is closer to the shoulder joint (attachment point)
Lateral
away from the midline of the body
Example of Lateral
the ears are lateral to the eyes
Medial
towards the midline of the body
Example of Medial
the nose is medial to the ears
Superior
closer to the head than another part
