Skeletal cell anatomy Flashcards
What is the sarcolemma?
the cell membrane
What structures are continuous with the sarcolemma and extend into the cell/fiber?
Transverse tubules
What is the sarcoplasmic reticulum? What are its two divisions?
Tubular network that surrounds myofibrils
Made up of Cisternae and Triads
What are cisternae? Where are they? What do they do?
Large chambers of Sarcoplasmic reticulum
on either side of T-tubules
Store Calcium ions
What are Triads? Where are they?
part of sarcoplasmic reticulum encircling the myofibril
alongside (flanking) the cisternae
How are myofibrils arranged?
into sarcomeres
What makes up of myofibril?
microfilaments
What are the two contractile proteins?
Actin and Myosin
Which contractile protein is the Thin filament?
Actin
What is Actin bound to?
Bound to Z disc
What is Myosin bound to?
Z disc and M line
What does Nebulin do?
Secures Actin to Z disc
What does Titin do?
Secures Myosin to both Z disc and M line
What are the two regulatory proteins? Where are they found?
Troponin and Tropomyosin
Found on Actin
What does tropomyosin do?
block the myosin head binding site on Actin
