Describe the onset of Sjogrens syndrome
Primary condition or secondary to other autoimmune conditions like RA and SLE
How is sjogrens diagnosed?
Confirmation of ocular dryness- Schirmers test
Positive Anti-Ro
Positive Anti-La
Typical features of lip gland biopsy
How is Sjogrens managed?
Largely management of symptoms
-lubricating eye drops
-Saliva replacement
Pilocarpine can stimulate saliva but can cause flushing
-dental care (caries)
Hydroxychloroquine can help with arthralgia and fatigue
Immunosuppresion if organ involvement
What are the complications of sjogrens?
Peripheral neuropathy and interstitial lung disease
Increased risk of lymphoma
