elderly individuals (very rare under 50)

What characterises polymaglia rheumatica?
A
Proximal myalgia of the hip and shoulder girdles
Morning stiffness lasting more than one hour
Symptoms improve with movement

What is the connection between polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis?
A
15% PMR patients develop GCA
40-50% GCA patients have associated PMR

How is polymyalgia rheumatica diagnosed?
A
Always associated with raised CSR and PV/ESR

What is used as a diagnostic tool for PMR?
A
Symptomatic response to low dose steroids (15mg daily)
