Site Program and Selection Flashcards
What drives the relative importance of site selection vs site programming at the beginning of a project. As such what is the first step in the desing process?
Whether a client has site driven needs or program driven needs - site programming OR stie selection can be the first step depending on the client circumstances
What is a project program?
A project program outlines the personal political financial and social components of a a project and will always inlcude:
a list of goals and objectives,
elements to be included in the design,
special requirements to fulfill the design
What is the diff between goals and objectives
Goals are general statements of intent for the overall design, objectives are SPECIFIC statments that suggest how the goals are going to be accomplished aka action oriented
How does PM for Design Professionals define gaols vs objectives
Goals are universal and don’t really vary projec to project : objectives are desired project specific outcomes or results
Program development is informed by ….
A, lr, uds, si, p, o, b
market analysis,
lit reviews,
user demand studies,
stakholder interviews and surveys, a
nalysis of relevant precedent,
client objectives,
project budget
For clients with well delineated programs - what is critical to their success?
Site selection
To take advantage of the benefits provide by a site, site selection should be guided by…
project objectives,
project requirements,
LOCATIONS / REGIONS for a given desired use
Besides programming, provide examples of how site selection may impact the lifecycle of a project
high heating or cooling costs due to solar exposure,
What are some of the benefits of a thorough site seleciton process
functionality
accessibility
reduces costs, (including mx and operation)
aesthetic
reduced environmental impacts
LaGro lists the seven steps of SITE SELECTION as::
o, c i, e, r, s, t
- Determine the project objectives and requirements
- establish the site selection criteria
- identifying potential sites
4 Eval each potential site against project requirements
5 ranking the potential sites against each other
6 selecting the ideal site
7 Testing the project’s feasibility
What is relationship between site programming / Site selection and site inventory
You cannot inventory a site that hasn’t yet been selected…
Programming helps determine site selection critera as to what data should be collected during site inventory
What types of sites does Smarth Growth and Sustainable design encouarge over greenfeild sites
urban infill and brownfield developments
Define urban in fill
development on unused or underutilized lands within urban areas
define a brownfield site
any previously developed land that is not currently is use, may be potentially contaminated but this is not a required factor to be considered brownfield.
What do brownfield sites require for development?
Phase I environmental assessment priort to sale of property to determine what activies took palce and may have contaminated it.
If Phase I id’s contamination - a Phase II study is rquired to determine location and remediation of contaminants
