SIRS/MODS/SEPSIS Flashcards
SIRS/SEPSIS/MODS
Chapter 7 CCM 3rd edition
What are the categories for SIRS ?
Hyper/hypothermia, tachycardia, tachypnea, WBC count
In dogs need 2
In cats need 3
What is the definition of MODS
the presence of altered organ function in an acutely ill patient such that homeostasis cannot be maintained without intervention,
Sepsis definition?
SIRS due to an infectious process
How does the sirs criteria performed in regards to sensitivity and specificity?
Extremely sensitive, very poorly specific
How was MODS classically diagnosed
Abnormalities in 2 or more organ systems
As opposed to humans how may the qSOFA score be beneficial in vet?
In humans - more prognostic mortality regardless of presence of infection
In vet - not prognostic unless in sepsis patients (however studies very limited and use human cutoffs)
What three criteria exist in qSOFA>
Mentation, RR and BP
What does the APPLE score stand for?
Acute Patient Physiologic and Laboratory Evaluation
are the SIRS criteria a prognostic indicator?
No
IS there an accurate detection criteria for sepsis or any prognostic indicators?
No - apple scores the best
