Bilingualism; English promoted as first language due to practicality and would also learn their mother tongues to retain cultural heritage. Provided common mode of communication amongst ethnic groups and increased understanding.
However it was disappointing to overwhelmingly majority as diminished Chinese to only a mother tongue

Practise of multiculturalism in education; 1992 Civic and Moral Education created to promote national values and religious practises included in textbooks to promote inter religious understanding
