Simple Wound Dressing Flashcards
What are the signs of inflammation
Erythema- redness Oedema- swelling Increased skin temperature- heat coming off the wound Febrile - possible fever Pain Malodour- bad odour Exudate- ooze and fluids
Rationale for ANTT
It’s an infection-prevention measure that protects individuals during invasive procedures by minimising the introduction of microorganisms, which could cause an infection, into susceptible sites, surfaces or equipment
Two approaches to ANTT
STANDARD ANTT
Surgical ANTT
We are using standard
Standard vs. surgical ANTT
Standard- non-sterile gloves
Surgical- sterile gloves + gowns, masks, etc.
Standard- less than 20 mins (technically simple)
Surgical- more than 20 mins (technically complex)
Standard- general aseptic fields
Surgical- critical aseptic fields
Standard- involves few and small key-parts and key-sites
Surgical- involves large and open key-sites or large and numerous key-parts
Key-parts
ONLY Key-parts can come into contact with the susceptible key-site
E.g. island of the dressing, forceps, swabs , dressing material
Key-sites
The incision or the open wound that is susceptible to infection
