Simple Structures Flashcards
What are the properties of small molecules
Small molecules have lower melting and boiling points because their simple structures typically involve weaker intermolecular forces.
They tend to be more reactive because of the lack of bonds to break
They are not conductive because they dont have any free electrons to carry a charge
How does the size of molecules affect melting and boiling points
The larger the molecules, the more bonds it has that require lots of energy to break and therefore will have a high melting and boiling point
Why do small molecules not conduct electricity
They are not conductive because they dont have any free electrons to carry a charge
Describe an intermolecular force
Intermolecular forces are forces between separate molecules that hold the substance together.
If a bond is a liquid or gas at room temperature what structure is it
