Simple & Co-dominance quiz Flashcards
Strands of chromatin containing DNA. Comprised of genes. Each __ has many different genes
Chromosomes
part of a gene- each gene contains two, one from each parent. Dominant _ are typically represented by a capital letter, recessive _ are represented by a lower case letter
Allele
carries information to encode a specific protein
Gene
the specific alleles make up a gene. Can be homozygous or heterozygous.
Genotype
the physical expression of a gene (observable traits). Recessive traits only show if an individual has a homozygous recessive.
Phenotype
two of the same alleles; could be dominant or recessive
homozygous
two different alleles- dominant and recessive
Heterozygous
causes two equally dominant traits to be expressed in heterozygous individuals.
Co-dominance
simplest type of cross. A single gene and how it could be inherited
Monohybrid crosses (Simple dominance)
true-breeding
homozygous
