Signs/Stages of Anesthesia Flashcards
Stage I
time between normal waking state and the loss of consciousness (hypnosis) due to an anesthetic agent; mild analgesia present
Stage 2
associated with loss of awareness and recall (amnesia); cardiovascular instability, excitation, dysconjugate ocular movements, emesis, and delirium.
Stage 3
defined as surgical anesthesia, state where movement in response to pain is suppressed
Stage 4
associate with cessation of spontaneous respiration and medullary cardiac reflexes and may lead to death
What stage starts from the beginning of induction and lasts until the loss of consciousness?
Stage 1
What stage begins with the cessation of respirations and ends with death?
Stage 4
What stage starts with the loss of consciousness and continues until regular, rhythmic respirations?
Stage 2
What stages starts with the regular, rhythmic respirations and continues until the cessation of respirations?
Stage 3
Both amnesia and analgesia start - progress through this stage
Stage 1
Reflexes are absent, VS almost non-existent, medullary paralysis in what stage?
Stage 4
Moves through planes - respirations change throughout, VS start normal and progressively decrease, muscle tone becomes relaxed, loss of lash reflex, loss of retching or vomiting reflexes, pupils dilate progressively until fully dilated
Stage 3
Response to stimulation is exaggerated and can be violent in this stage?
Stage 2
