A

indicate the precision of a measured number or to express the precision of a calculation with measured numbers

What are the rules of significant figures?

A

1) zeros at the beginning of a number are not significant

2) in addition/subtraction your answer can’t have more numbers to the right of the decimal point than the number in the problem with the least amount of numbers to the right of the decimal point

3) in multiplication/division you take the s.f based on the lowest multiplied/divided digit

4) zeros between non-zeroes are significant

5) zeroes inform of non-zero are in significant

6) zeroes at the end of a number or on the right of a decimal are significant

7) zeros at the end when no decimal is present aren’t significant
