signature assignment Flashcards
PROS and CONS of an elective induction of labor
pros -
control of when labor starts
can plan for support people to be there
will be in hospital so more safe
can avoid macrosomia
cons -
risk of low bishop score
risk of c/s
baby may have some difficulty adjusting to induction, requires UNCOIL
example:
dilation 1 cm = 1
effacement 30% = 0
station -3 = 0
soft cervix = 2
midposition cervix = 1
bishop score = 4
what does it mean?
This is a low score. Ideal score is 8 +
This means a vaginal birth is unlikely.
Labor augmentation would be a good thing to do, such as foley bulb or prostaglandins.
what can cause maternal fever during labor?
infection
side effects of medications such as epidural
dehydration
is this strip reassuring?
baseline -
variability -
accelerations -
decelerations -
cause of decels -
contraction frequency -
contraction duration -
contraction intensity -
contraction resting tone -
any interventions necsessary at this time?
reassuring - yes
baseline - 150’s
variability - minimal
accelerations - none (nonreactive)
decelerations - early
cause - head compression
contraction frequency - 120 - 180 secs
contraction duration - 60- 90 secs
contraction intensity - must palpate
contraction resting tone - resting tone visible between contractions 30 - 90 secs
the baby’s head is expected to be depressed as it moves down the birth canal. we may want to do a SVE and we could still reposition or do other nursing interventions.
put these is order r/t epidural placement
____Assess vital signs
_____Assess laboratory values
_____Administer LR IVF bolus
_____Monitor the fetal heart rate tracing
_____Assess for bladder distension
_____Assess pain rating
_____Position the client in High Fowler’s
_____Obtain informed consent
_____Explain the procedure to the client
_____Routinely assess the epidural site
_____Inform the client that she will not be able to ambulate
4____Assess vital signs
5_____Assess laboratory values (PLATELETS)
7_____Administer LR IVF bolus
3_____Monitor the fetal heart rate tracing
9_____Assess for bladder distension
6_____Assess pain rating
8_____Position the client in High Fowler’s
2_____Obtain informed consent
1____Explain the procedure to the client
11_____Routinely assess the epidural site
10_____Inform the client that she will not be able to ambulate
is this strip reassuring?

variability -
accelerations -
decelerations -

category 1, 2, 3 -
any interventions necessary at this time?
reassuring - yes
baseline - 145’s
variability - moderate
accel - yes (reactive)
decels - no
contractions - none
category 1 - good
we could increase oxytocin since mom is not having any contractions and FHR is reassuring
how does a full bladder impact labor
gets in the way of contractions and birth
