not language, but can be used to compliment language

function liked fixed phrases, but unlike real phrases they are not composed of individual words
Deictics
Refers to an object, usually by pointing
Iconics
Represent what they refer to in a non-arbitrary way, the from and the meaning are the same
Signed English
recreates English grammar and vocab using some ASL signs
ASL
has it’s own grammar and lexicon, as well as signs
Articulatory Parameters
shape, location, movement, orientation
Shape
configuration of the hand(s) (flat hand)
Orientation
orientation of the hand(s) (palm up or palm down)
Location
position of the sign in relationship to head or body
Movement
ex: out and downward
