Describe the growing area of Sierra Gredos
A
- Mountain range west of Madrid
- No denomination of origin for wines, often labelled as Vinos de Madrid DO, Metrida DO, Cerebos DO or Castilla Leon VT
- Inexpensive high volume wines
- A number of quality minded producers emerging

Describe the wines of the Sierra de Gredos
A
- mostly old vine Garnacha at altitudes of 600m-1200m
- Continentality and altitude produces wines of fresh fruited, high acid wines; notably different than Aragon; light tannin, medium + acid, fresh red fruit
- Sunshine and heat can raise alcohol levels
- Many low intervention wines, ambient yeasts, low levels of sulphur
- Good to very good
- Mid - premium priced
- Most common white grape is Albillo Real; full bodied, citrus, floral with medium to medium + acid. Some oak maturation, some skin contact fermentation
