SI #1 WORKSHEET PROBLEMS Flashcards

1
Q

How many mL should be used to make an isotonic soln

A

Step 1: 0.9g/100mL x (mls in problem) = g NaCl
Step 2: (g/100ml of % given) = g Drug
Step 3: g Drug x e-value (given) = NaCl equivalent
Step 4: g x e-value/0.009 = mL H2O
Step 5: (mls in problem) - (ml H2O) = ml of NaCl that
needs to be added.

Q

Using Boric Acid:

A

Step 1: (mg of drug required for rx, probs the number in the last problem) x drug e-value = mg (drug)
if multiple numbers, just do this to each one and add them together*
Step 2: (0.9g/100ml x 1000mg/1g) x mls in problem)
Step 3: step 2 - step 1 = mg/0.52(boric acid e-value) = mg (may ask for grams, just convert)

Q

IBW

A

Step 1: height in inches (2.3 x inches over 5 ft (60 in))
Step 2: FEMALE: 45.5kg + (2.3 x inches over (60 in))
MALES: 50kg + (2.3 x inches over (60 in))

Q

BMI

A

Step 1: height in inches –> m^2 (1 meter = 100 cm) = m^2
Step 2: TBW (kg) / m^2 = BMI

Q

Weights for CrCl

A
  1. TBW<IBW = TBW
  2. TBW=IBW = IBW
  3. TBW>IBW: IF BMI<25= IBW
    (OBESE) IF BMI>25=AdjBW

Q

CrCl (ml/min)

A

MALES: (140 - age) TBW / 72 x mg/dl (given)
FEMALES: 0.85 X CrCl you get from male equation
Cockcroft Gault: (140 - age) TBW OR IBW / 72 x mg/dl (given) = ml/min
