Origin & Insertion of the Deltoid
Origin:
-Lateral 1/3 of the clavicle
- Acromion
- Spine of scapula
Insertion:
Deltoid tuberosity
Actions of the deltoid
all fibers:
- abduct the shoulders
Anterior Fibers:
- Flex the shoulder
- Medially rotate the shoulder
- Horizontally adduct the shoulder
Posterior Fibers:
- Extend the shoulder
- Laterally rotate the shoulder
- Horizontally abduct the shoulder

Origin & Insertion of the Trapezius
Origin:
-bump of knowledge (EOP)
-Medial portion of superior nuchal line of the occiput
- ligamentum nuchae
- SP C7- T12
Insertion:
- Lateral 1/3 of the clavicle

Actions of the Trapezius
Upper Fibers
Unilaterally:
- laterally flex head/neck to the same side
- Rotate head/neck to the opposite side
- Elevates the Scapula
- upwardly rotate the scapula
Bilaterally:
Extend the head/neck
Middle Fibers
Adduct the scapula
Stabilize the scapula
Lower Fibers
Depress the scapula
Upwardly rotate the scapula

Origin:
-Inferior angle of the scapula
-SP of last 6 thoracic vertebrae
-Last 3 or 4 ribs
-Thoracolumbar fascia
- Posterior iliac crest

intertubercular groove of the humerus
Action of Latissimus Dorsi
Extend the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
Medially rotate the shoulder

Origin:
- Inferior angle of the scapula
- lower 1/3 of lateral border of the scapula
Insertion:
Crest of the lesser tubercle of the humerus
Action of Teres Major
Extend the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
Medially rotate the shoulder

Origin & Insertion of Supraspinatus
Origin:
- Supraspinatus fossa of the scapula
Insertion:
Greater tubercle of the humerus
Action of Supraspinatus
Abduct the shoulder
Stabilize the head of the humerus

Suprascapular C4,5,6
Origin & Insertion of the Infraspinatus
Origin:
Infraspinatus fossa of the scapula
Insertion:
Greater tubercle of the humerus
Action of Infraspinatus
Laterally rotate the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
Stabilize the head of the humerus in glenoid cavity

Origin:
- Upper 2/3 of lateral border of scapula
Insertion:
Greater tubercle of the humerus
Action of Teres Minor
Laterally rotate the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
Stabilize the head of the humerus in glenoid cavity
Nerve of Teres Minor

Origin & Insertion of Subscapularis
Origin:
- Subscapular fossa of the scapula
Insertion:
Lesser tubercle of the humerus
Action of Subscapularis
Medially rotate the shoulder
Stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Nerve of Subscapularis
Upper and Lower subscapular C5,6,7
Origin & Insertion of Rhomboid Major
Origin:
- SP T2-T5
Insertion:
- Medial border of the scapula
- between the spine of the scapula and inferior angle
Action of Rhomboid Major
Adduct the scapula
Elevate the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula
Nerve of Rhomboid Major
Dorsal Scapular C4,5
Origin & Insertion of Rhomboid Minor
Origin :
- SP C7 & T1
Insertion:
- Upper portion of medial border of the scapula across from the spine of the scapula
Action of Rhomboid Minor
Adduct the scapula
Elevate the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula

Origin & Insertion of Levator Scapula
Origin:
TVP 1st-4th cervical vertebrae
Insertion:
- Medial border of the scapula
- between superior angle and superior portion of the spine of scapula
Action of Levator Scapula
Unilaterally:
- Elevate the scapula
- downwardly rotate the scapula
- laterally flex the head and neck
- rotate the head/neck same side
Bilaterally:
Extend the head/neck

Origin & Insertion of Serratus Anterior
Origin:
External surface of upper 8 or 9 ribs
Insertions:
Anterior surface of medial border of the scapula
Actions of Serratus Anterior
With origin fix:
-Abduct the scapula
- Upwardly rotate the scapula
- Depress the scapula
- hold the medial border of the scapula against the rib cage
With the scapula fixed:
Elevates the thorax during forced inhalation

Origin & Insertion of Pectoralis Major
Origin:
- Medial half of clavicle
- Sternum
- Cartilage 1st-6 ribs
Insertions:
Crest of greater tubercle of humerus
Actions of Pectoralis Major
All fibers:
-Adduct the shoulder
- Medially rotate the shoulder
- Assist to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
Upper fibers:
-Flex the shoulder
- Horizontally adduct the shoulder
Lower fibers:
Extend the shoulders

Upper fibers:
Lateral pectoral C5-7
Lower fibers:
Lateral and medial pectoral C6-8, T1

Origin:
3,4,5th ribs
Insertions:
Medial surface of coracoid process of the scapula
Actions of Pec Minor
Depress the scapula
Abduct the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula
•with the scapula fixed
Assist to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
