shoulder and brachial plexus Flashcards
fascia of pectoral region attached to:
- clavicle
- sternum
- multiaxial
- diarthrosis (highly moveable but very unstable even with labrum, cavity only contacts 1/3 head of humerus)
ball and socket
fibrocartilage rim that deepens socket/provides stability
glenoid labrum
hyaline cartilage
humeral head & glenoid cavity of scapula articular surfaces
muscle tone of rotator cuff muscles keep humeral head in place
rotator cuff muscles
subscapularis
anterior rotator cuff muscles
- supraspinatus
- infraspinatus
- teres minor
posterior rotator cuff muscles
articular capsule has 2 parts:
- loose fibrous capsule
- synovial membrane
- margins of glenoid cavity
- anatomical neck of humerus - encloses the long head of the biceps tendon
loose fibrous capsule
- between the tubercles of the humerus for passage of the biceps tendon
- anteriorly, inferior to the coracoid process
- allows communication of subtendinous bursa of subscapularis and the synovial cavity
synovial membrane
- coracoacromial ligament
- coracohumeral ligament
- tendons (supraspinatus)
superiorly glenohumeral reinforcement
- glenohumeral ligaments
- tendons (subscapularis)
anteriorly glenohumeral reinforcement
- tendons (infraspinatus, teres minor)
posteriorly glenohumeral reinforcement
tendons rub against acromion
impingement syndrome
bony growth and act like sandpaper on tendons
bone spurs
tears (2 types);
- degenerative tendonitis
- sudden strain
posterior axis-appendicular muscles
- trapezius
- latissimus dorsi
- rhomboid major
- rhomboid minor
- levator scapulae
anterior axio-appendicular muscles
- pectoralis minor
- pectoralis major
- subclavius
- serratus anterior
scapulohumeral muscles
- supraspinatus
- infraspinatus
- teres minor
- subscapularis
- deltoid
- teres major
