Shoulder Flashcards
Test to rule out intrinsic cervical spine restrictions
Cross arms to ACJ and demonstrate cervical movements again. Improvement in this position versus arms resting at side means the extrinsic muscles are contributing to motion loss. No change in motion means the intrinsic muscles are contributing
Static restraints of the shoulder
Negative intracapsular pressure
Labrum suction
Cohesion adhesion between wet smooth surfaces
Dynamic restraints of the shoulder
The rotator cuff in the long head of the biceps
The inferior glenohumeral ligament
Function of the inferior glenohumeral ligament
Creates a sling for the humerus protecting it from anterior, posterior, or inferior subluxation
Hill-Sachs lesion
Osseous defect of postero lateral humeral head caused by anterior dislocation
Bankart lesion
Damage to the anterior glenoid labrum and capsule
When does the long head of the biceps provide stabilization
During overhead throwing activities
Immobilization required after labral repairs
2 to 4 weeks
How long after surgery for the unstable shoulder will the person feel back to normal
One year
Length of conservative management for Multidirectional instability
Three months
What is a force couple
Two forces of equal magnitude that work in opposite directions to produce rotation on a body
What is a sick scapula
Scapula infera coracoid dyskinesia
Muscular overuse fatigue syndrome commonly seen in athletes where the scapula drops is protracted and has more abduction
