Shoulder Flashcards
AP neutral recipe
Patient is standing “as is”
CR 1” inferior coracoid process
Humerus is not AP nor lateral
This is a trauma view if patient can’t rotate external or internal
AP internal recipe
Patient is AP
CR 1” inferior to coracoid process
Humerus is lateral
Overlap of humeral head and glenoid
AP external recipe
Patient is AP
CR 1” inferior coracoid process
Humerus is AP
Overlap of glenoid and humerus head
Grashey/ Posterior oblique
Patient is rotated 35-45 degrees toward region of interest
Glenoid in profile
No overlap of humeral head and glenoid
Natural rotation per ARRT
external rotation in St Vincent department
Axillary inferosuperior
Abduct arm 90 degrees with external rotation
CR 25-30 degrees to humeral head
Axillary superoinferior
Abduct arm 90 degrees with external rotation
CR 25-30 degrees to humeral head
Scapular Y
Done PA/ Anterior oblique or AP/ posterior oblique
Medial margin aligned with humeral head
Outlook/ Neers view
Done PA
Scapula is lateral ( same position as scapula Y view)
CR 10-15 degrees caudad
AP scapula
Abduct humerus 90 degrees & hand is supinated
Elbow against IR which makes scapula flat
CR is perpendicular to mid scapula
Lateral scapula

Patient is PA
CR is caudad
AC joints with and without weights
72” SID
CR level with AC
Take 2 images ( one without weights and one with weights)
Transthoracic lateral
For when patient is unable to move arm
Affected side closer to IR
CR perpendicular to level of affected surgical neck
mA (4-5 seconds preferred)
