Name some short term causes of WW1

  • On 28 June 1914, Ferdinand was visiting Sarajevo in Bosnia. A Black Hand Assassin called Gavrilo Princip fired 2 bullets, killing both Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie.
  • Austria-Hungary’s emperor, Franz Joseph(Franz Ferdinand’s uncle) was furious at the assassination of his nephew. He issued a 10 point ultimatum to Serbia, holding them responsible for the murder. Serbia only agreed to 9 of the points so Austria-Hungary declared war.

•In 1908, Austria-Hungary had stolen( annexed) Bosnia. This angered many Bosnian people who wnated to join with Serbia.
