short answer questions Flashcards
Question #1
- Two variable data
- Describe relationship using
CSOS (context, shape, outliers, spread) - Interpret slope with lin reg
- Prediction vs. risidual: preiction is the line you create so where you expect data points to be and risidual is differnce between where they are
Cluster sampling
- Definition: The population is divided into clusters (like geographical areas), then clusters are randomly selected, and all individuals within the selected clusters are included in the sample.
- Method: Random sampling of clusters, followed by including all individuals within the selected clusters.
Simple random sample
- Definition: Every individual in the population has an equal chance of being selected, and each combination of individuals has an equal chance of being selected as the sample.
- Method: Using random number generators or drawing lots to select individuals.
Stratified sampling
- Definition: The population is divided into subgroups (or strata) based on certain characteristics (like age, gender, etc.), and then samples are randomly selected from each stratum.
- Method: Random sampling within each stratum.
Experimental units
the unit to which the treatment is applied to, the person being tested
Response variable
the dependent variable that someone wants to study, such as a test score
Random Sampling purpose
How you select individusl from a population in order to generalize it
Random assignment purpose
How you place particpants into groups, often to show causation
Binomial pdf
the probability of a precise number of successes out of a certain number of trials
Binomial cdf
the probability of at least or at most a certain number of successes out of a certain number of trials
Binomial Probability
Enter the lower bound for the number of successes (Low), the upper bound for the number of successes (High), the number of trials (Trials), and the probability of success (P), and then hit Calculate
Conditional Probability
P(A|B)
- the chances that some outcome (A) occurs given that another event (B) has also occurred
- A is dependent on B
Conditional Probability Formula
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)
Inference question
2-SampleZTest
Law of Large Counts
as a sample size grows, its mean gets closer to the average of the whole population
