Shock Flashcards
What is cardiogenic shock?
Reduced force of cardiac contraction and SV
So reduces CO and MAP
How does cardiogenic shock present?
Clammy
Cool peripheries
Mottling
Low GCS
What is hypovolaemic shock?
Reduced blood volume
Low venous return to heart
How does hypovolaemic shock present?
Tachycardic Bleeding Drowsiness Hypotensive Tachypnoeic
What is obstructive shock?
Obstructive to heart working well
Eg clot, tamponade, etc
Similar to cardiogenic
What should be measured in suspected shock?
Urine output
Lactate
MAP
Give an example of causes of cardiogenic shock
MI
Valve failure
Arrythmia
Poison
How does obstructive shock present?
Raised JVP
Distended neck pains
Give example of causes of obstructive shock
Trauma, aortic dissection - tamponade
Trauma, pleural pathology - tension pneumothorax
PE
How is cardiac tamponade treated?
Pericardiocentesis
How is aortic dissection treated?
Thoracotomy
How is a tension pneumothorax treated?
Thoracocentesis
Wide bore cannula 2nd intercostal space, midclavicular line
Give example of a cause of neurogenic shock
Spinal cord damage
Iatrogenic
