Q

Why are lone pairs more repulsive?

A

Lone pairs are only attracted to the centre nucleus, whereas bonding pairs are attracted to both the centre nucleus and the nucleus of the element which they are also orbiting. This means that the lone pair will be closer to the centre nucleus pushing the others out of the way as they are repelled.
