Give clues so that we understand the plot and what is going to occur throughout the play. It introduces the characters.

How does Act 1 scene 1 begin?
Sampson and Gregory, servants of Capulets, are making crude sexual jokes in good spirits towards each other. Montagues arrive and the joking turns sour.
Who causes the fight at the start of Act Scene 1?
-Capulets (by biting their thumbs at the Montagues)
-Benvolio (draws his sword to try and stop the others)
-Tybalt challenges Benvolio and they keep the fight going (Tybalt says that no one draws their sword in peace)
What are the main differences between Benvolio and Tybalt?
-Tybalt is very hot headed and temperamental
-Benvolio is kinder and timid
When Capulet and Montague want to fight, who restrains them?
Lady Capulet restrains Lord Capulet. She accuses him of needing a cane instead of a sword as a result of his age.
Lord Montague’s wife does not want him to fight either. However, she is not so vocal in her protests. The Prince stops Montague more than anyone else.

If the street’s are interrupted again there will be bloodshed. His speech is serious.

Why are Romeo’s parents worried about him?
He seems depressed, he is staying in his room and not talking to any of his friends or family. He is creating himself a false night and staying in all day to write and lament
Why is Romeo sad?
He is a hopeless romantic, he has fallen in love with a woman that does not love him back and he feels he will be alone forever because no one is as beautiful or smart as her so he won’t love any other person ever.
Who tries to help Romeo? What advice is given to Romeo?
Benvolio tries to help Romeo. He says that Romeo needs to look at other women and he will realize that there are other women that are better than her. Romeo needs to “move on”
What does the introduction of Tybalt reveal about his character?
He is arrogant and does enjoy fighting.
