What are the indications for the SGA directive?
Need for ventilatory assistance or airway control;
AND
Other airway management is ineffective.
What are the conditions for a supraglottic airway?
Patient must be in cardiac arrest.
What are the contraindications for a supraglottic airway?
- Active vomiting
- Inability to clear the airway
- Airway edema
- Stridor
- Caustic ingestion
What is the maximum number of attempts at SGA insertion?

What is the primary method of SGA placement confirmation?
ETCO2 (Waveform capnography)
What are the secondary methods of SGA placement confirmation?
- ETCO2 (Non-waveform device)
- Auscultation
- Chest rise
How does the ALS define an attempt at SGA insertion?
The insertion of the SGA into the mouth.
How many of each SGA placement confirmation methods must be used?
Either the primary (ETCO2 with waveform), or at least 2 secondary methods.
