Repeated apnea (no airflow) w/ continued chest wall movement Severe decrease O2 sats

Why would obstructive sleep apnea pt have pitting edema?
A
B/c may also have R or L HF
+/- obesity

What is the most extreme but always curative treatment for sleep apnea?
A
Tracheostomy
Only if everything else fails and pt is suffering from cardiac and resp failure

If apnea-hypopnea index is too high, what treatments do you have to take off the table?
A
Dental device
Uvulu-palato-pharyngo-plasty

What kind of apnea do you expect from pts on opiods?
A
Central apnea aka no ab/rib movement
B/c opiates suppress ventilatory drive
