Sexual Reproduction in the cells (aka: the more complicated version of sex ed Flashcards
What is sexual reproduction
When 2 organisms work together to make new organism
What is the haploid number
Number of inherited chromosones
What is a gamete
Specialized cell that carries haploids.
What is a male gamete
Sperm cell
What is a female gamete
Egg cell
What is meiosis
Special kind of cell division where the chromosones dont divide in new cell. Also, the dna only replicates once
Explain meiosis I
Its where one chromosome from each parent and lines up at equator. They then cross over to share genetic info. Cell then splits without dna replicating.
Explain homologus chromosomes
2 sets of chromosomes each set from a different parent
Explain meiosis II
Next stage of meosis. These are the results of meiosis I.
What happens during meiosis II
Only 1 set of homologous in each cell. Chromatids line up at centre, then the sister chromatids pull apart to make the homologus chromosones into haploid sets at each end of cell.
