A
  • suggests sterotyping is learned
  • has prac apps, suggestion of unlearned we can address negative sterotypes to change way children are socialised
  • Disney eg Mulan- less sterotypical models
  • process of unlearning not easy- historically engrained in society

  • society is changing and modern research may not replicate same findings regarding learning of sterotypes

what supporting research is there?

A

Seavey (1975)
- told 1/3 adult p’s that a 3 month old baby dressed in yellow jumpsuit was a boy/girl/not reveal gender.
- left to play with baby in room with ball (boy), doll (girl) and plastic ring (neutral).
- adults sterotype as young as 3 months old- reinforce it.
