left to play with baby in a room containing a ball, a doll and a plastic ring

peers and mothers reactions to preschoolers play with gender opposite toys

when boys played with girls toys, mothers accepted it but male peers ridiculed and even hit them

told stories that stressed sex-role stereotypical characteristics

children had to state whether the child in the story was male or female

children attributed positive characteristics to their own to their own gender and negative to non-gender
