What is it?
A chromosomal condition that affects male physical and cognitive development
How many males does it affect?
1 in 750
What does the condition involve having?
An extra X chromosome - XXY
What do males have who are born with it?
Small testes that produce insufficient amounts of testosterone before birth and during puberty
What do sufferers typically lack the ability to grow?
Facial/pubic hair, develop breast tissue, have low muscularity and low fertility levels
What do psychological effects include?
Poor language skills, poor reading ability, passive temperament, and attention problems
What causes an extra X chromosome?
An error in cell division called non disjunction, causes an egg/sperm cell to produce an extra one
What medial complications can arise from KF?
Cardiovascular, circulatory and respiratory conditions, as well as diabetes
