Sex-linkage Flashcards
1
Q
How is sex-linkage easy to spot?
A
- males and females
2
Q
When the sex linkage occurs?
A
- Occurs when the genes on the sex chromsomes X and Y
3
Q
What are these chromosomes?
A
- They are homologous but the smaller Y chromosomes has a section missing, and so only contains a fewer genes
- Therefore males have only one allele of certain genes, and this alone will be expressed in the phenotype
4
Q
What happens if the allele is only inherited from the mother is recessive?
A
- The male offspring will suffer from certain conditions that are only predominantly found in males
5
Q
When does linkage occur?
A
- Occurs when genes for different characteristics, found at different loci on the same chromosomes are linked together
6
Q
What are the two forms of linkage?
A
- Sex and autosomal linkage
