What is sex
Sex refers to the biological differences between men and
women. This is based on physical and anatomical attributes
such as chromosomes and genitalia. It is an ascribed status
given at birth.
What is gender?
Gender, in comparison is the socially constructed attributes
that determine whether somebody is masculine or feminine.
It is more flexible than sex and is often determined by social norms
Femenism
Feminists are the most prominent sociologists in examining
the way in which society treats people differently based
upon their gender assignation. There are several trends
between genders that sociologists examine:
Representations of masculinity and femenity in the media
Inequality in workplaces
making, childcare, domestic labour and emotional work
Disparities between males and females in terms of
crime, educational achievement and mental health.
