Yard Stick
Made of a hard wood or metal, a yardstick is useful for checking hems and drawing long lines.
Tape measure
used primarily for taking body measurements, as well as for drafting patterns, measuring fabric, laying out patterns on fabric, specifying the length of a garment, checking the size of hems.
(hems are the ends of cloths)
Shears
Bent handles used to cut out fabric ONLY!
Scissors
flat and used to cut paper.
Seam ripper
is a pointed tool used to remove unwanted stitches, threads and to open a buttonhole.
Fabric marker
useful for transferring sewing pattern markings.
Straight pins
hold your fabric together to cut or sew.
Hand sewing needles
used for hand-sewing, is a long slender tool with a pointed tip at one end and a hole (or eye) at the other.
Pin cushion
used in sewing to store pins or needles with their heads protruding to take hold of them easily, collect them, and keep them organized.
Pins
temporarily hold layers of fabric together
Button
a disliked piece of solid material having holes or a shank through which it is sewed to one side of an article of clothing and used to fasten or close the garment by passing through a loop or hole in the other side.
Spool of thread
a cylinder that holds the thread.
Thread
tightly twisted strand of two or more plys of yarn that are circular when cut in a cross section.
Sewing Machine Bobbin
the bottom thread when using a sewing machine.
Safety pin
a pin with a point that is bent back to the head and is held in a guard when closed.
