Sewege Treatment Flashcards
Name the 3 pollution health hazards
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis
- Gastro Enteritis
Advantages of sewege treatment
Reduces ship side openings
Simplify pipe runs
Heads and Bathrooms lower in ship
Heads and Bathrooms used in drydock
Can operate in anti pollution areas
Easier to close down CBRN Conditions
Types of sewege treatment
Bacteria,
Collect, hold, transfer
How does aeration work?
Air bubbles fllw through slurry in the aeration tank which gets digested by the slurry and dilutes it into dischargable water
Biological System
Biploical System
If aeration fails, jts called
Anaerobic
H2s smells of
Rotten eggs
How does sewege teatment work
Slurry transferred to settlement hopper
Slurry is allowed to stand, and indigested sewege sinks to bottom
Leaves clear liquid at top
Clear liquid goes into chlorine contact, and is discharged into collection tank to be thrown overboard
Sewege is sent back to aeration tank via sludge return line
What does coarse screen do
Takes out large foreign matter passed through the macerator
What does the aeration compartment do
Air supply allows sewege to break down waste
What do diffusers do?
Give an even airflow supplied by dedicated air xompressor
Whag dies the settlemetn hopper do
Liquid from aeration tank into settlement hopper through air lift
What does chlorine contact do?
Any residue is sterilised with calcium hydrochlorite
Dangerous chemical
Calcium hydrochlorite
Dangerous gas
H2s hydrogen sulphide
