Q

When caring for a person with abdominal pain, what should you do and watch for?

A

When caring for a person with severe abdominal pain, monitor the person’s movements and check to see if the abdomen is distended (bloated or swollen).

When caring for a person with abdominal pain, summon more advanced medical personnel for transport and maintain an open airway.

Watch for signs of potential aspiration due to vomiting.

Do not give the person food, water or medication.

Watch for signs and symptoms of shock; if you notice signs and symptoms of shock, place the person on their back, help the person maintain normal body temperature and administer emergency oxygen if available and you are trained.
